We’re pleased to offer a new song for this Christmas and future festive seasons.
NEWBORN SAVIOUR : A brand new song celebrating the Christmas narrative. Martin Owen has composed new lyrics to the very old tune of “Personent Hodie”.
Martin comments . . . “It was in the middle of September 2024 when Roger and I were running through the hymns and songs in preparation for the coming Sunday’s service. One of the hymns was to be ‘God is love, his the care’, which has the chorus of ‘ Sing aloud, loud, loud, God is good! God is truth! God is beauty! Praise him!’. ‘Hey,’ said Roger, ‘that chorus would make a fine Christmas song.’ And so the seed was sown.
I tossed the words around in my head for a few days then started putting them on paper. In practice, a Word file!! A reference to the Bible, Luke 2:1-20 and Matthew 2:1-12, and the song began to take shape. A couple of rewrites later and the song was ready for recording in November. It celebrates the joy that must have been felt at the time, and our own enjoyment of Jesus’ birth.
I hope the song resonates with you just as it did with us, and if you want to use it in your worship, feel free. You’ll find the music in many hymn books.”
It’s a family project with Helen Owen providing backing vocals. Also an Olive Tree Church, Luton project as Roger Huxley provided the instrumental backing with percussion, electric, acoustic and bass guitars to Martin’s arrangement. Recorded and edited in Audio Evolution Mobile Studio on iPad. Video created in Shotcut on MacOS.
Happy Christmas one and all
