Jesus: teach us to pray

Jesus teach us how to pray  This was the disciples cry after Jesus returned from time with his Father God. He did exactly that.  He gave the disciples (his followers, as we are today) a prayer we can pray every day and it covers a multitude of things.  I’m going to be speaking about this at this Sunday’s service and share with you what is standing out for me in this prayer.  I look forward to your input.  This will be the end of my mini-series on the Beatitudes.

Often prayer is the last thing we turn to after we have exhausted ourselves by trying to come up with our own solution to the problem.   One morning when I was at my wits end on how to work something out, I felt the Lord say ‘Come to me every day for the details, so you won’t have to be full of fear or come up with your own good ideas’. What a great word.  I need to do that more often.

A beautiful well known hymn puts it like this –

What a friend we have in Jesus.
All our sins and griefs to bear.
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.
O what peace we often forfeit.  O what needless pain we bear.
All because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer!

So my encouragement for this week is to pray and rest in God having the answer to whatever is heavy on your heart.

Blessings, Mary
